Canadian enterprise — RBC, TD, Sun Life and most large employers — runs on Microsoft, so postings ask for Power BI and DAX far more than Tableau. Lead with the tool the job names; an Indian résumé weighted to Tableau or a niche BI tool misses the keyword match.
Analysis described, business impact missing
'Created dashboards and reports' is invisible to a Canadian recruiter. They scan for outcomes: 'Built a churn model that cut monthly attrition 12%' or 'Automated a report that saved 8 analyst-hours a week'. Tie every analysis to a dollar or a decision.
Foreign degree with no Canadian framing
A Canadian employer may not recognise your Indian university by name. Where it matters, add an ECA line — 'B.Sc. Statistics, assessed as equivalent to a Canadian bachelor's (WES)' — so the credential clears the screen instead of raising a question mark.
SQL claimed but not evidenced
Nearly every Canadian analyst posting requires SQL, and the ATS looks for it plus the surrounding verbs — joins, window functions, ETL. Burying 'SQL' in a skills grid without a bullet that shows you used it against real tables reads as filler.

- Both appear, but Canada's Microsoft-heavy enterprises — banks, insurers, government — lean toward Power BI and DAX. Match whichever the specific posting lists, and if you know Power BI, make sure it's near the top.
- Do I need to get my Indian degree assessed for analyst roles?
- It's rarely mandatory for a private-sector analyst job, but an ECA (e.g. WES) line reassures employers your degree equals a Canadian one — and you'll need it anyway for Express Entry, so it's worth adding.
- How long should my Canadian data-analyst résumé be?
- One to two pages, no photo. Two pages is fine once you have a few years of experience — just keep every bullet quantified rather than padding with a skills matrix.
