The Canadian ATS-ready résumé for accountants moving from India
Canadian accounting employers screen résumés through an ATS on standards and software that differ sharply from India's — and a Chartered Accountant qualification from India is read against the CPA Canada framework, not assumed equal to it. An Indian CV citing Indian GAAP and unfamiliar tools stalls at the first pass. Here is how to localise it for a Canadian finance search.

Why accountant résumés from India get filtered in Canada
Indian standards where Canada expects IFRS and ASPE
Canadian public companies report under IFRS and private ones under ASPE — not Indian GAAP or US GAAP. A résumé that names Indian standards or leaves the framework unstated misses the exact keywords the ATS screens for; map your experience to IFRS/ASPE where it genuinely applies.
No CPA-pathway signal for an Indian CA
A Canadian recruiter won't assume your Indian CA equals a CPA. State where you stand — 'Indian CA (ICAI); CPA Canada credential assessment in progress' — and add an ECA line so your degree clears the screen instead of reading as an unknown qualification.
Missing the Canadian tax and payroll vocabulary
Canadian postings screen for GST/HST/PST, CRA remittances, T4/T5 slips, and payroll under Canadian rules. An Indian CV built around GST-India, TDS and Tally names none of the terms a Canadian ATS looks for, so even strong month-end experience goes unmatched.
Software mismatch — Tally instead of the Canadian stack
Canadian employers run QuickBooks, Sage 50, NetSuite and Excel; Tally and Indian ERP variants don't register. Name the Canadian tools you know and translate the rest ('ERP-based AP/AR, transferable to NetSuite') rather than listing software no local recruiter searches for.

Accountant résumé FAQ (India → Canada)
- Does my Indian CA count as a CPA in Canada?
- Not automatically. CPA Canada assesses international qualifications and ICAI members often get exemptions toward the CPA, but until it's recognised, label yourself an Indian CA and note your CPA pathway status — don't write 'CPA' on its own.
- Which accounting standards should I put on my Canadian résumé?
- IFRS for public-company work and ASPE for private companies — the two frameworks Canada uses. Only claim the one you've actually worked under, and drop Indian GAAP and US GAAP unless a role specifically calls for them.
- Do I need my degree assessed to apply for accounting jobs?
- An ECA (e.g. WES) isn't always required by employers but strongly helps, and it's needed for Express Entry. A short line confirming your degree equals a Canadian one removes doubt at the screening stage.
