The UK ATS-ready CV for accountants moving from India

UK finance teams screen accounting CVs for IFRS, UK GAAP (FRS 102), an ACCA/ACA/CIMA route and UK software — then run them through an ATS. An Indian CA CV built around Tally, Indian standards and US-style GAAP wording gets misread and filtered out. Here is how to translate your experience for a UK accounting search.

Why accountant CVs from India get filtered in the UK

US GAAP and CPA wording — wrong market entirely

UK employers work to IFRS and UK GAAP (FRS 102) and hire ACA, ACCA or CIMA — not US GAAP or CPA. A CV carrying US terms signals you've mis-targeted the market, and the ATS never matches the UK standards and qualifications the requisition is keyed to.

Indian qualification left untranslated

An 'ICAI / CA' line means little to a UK ATS or recruiter on its own. State your ACCA status or exemptions (ICAI–ACCA MoU), or map your experience to UK terms, so screeners can place you against 'part-qualified', 'ACCA finalist' or 'qualified accountant' filters.

Tally instead of Sage and Xero

UK SMEs and practices run on 'Sage', 'Xero', 'QuickBooks' and increasingly 'Making Tax Digital'. A CV that only lists Tally or Indian ERPs misses the software keywords UK recruiters and the ATS search for — name the UK tools you've used or trained on.

Missing UK compliance vocabulary

UK roles assume 'VAT', 'HMRC', 'statutory accounts', 'management accounts', 'month-end close' and 'reconciliations'. Indian-tax terms (GST, TDS) don't map; reframe your duties in the UK equivalents so the parser and the hiring manager recognise the work.

Accountant CV FAQ (India → UK)

Is my Indian CA recognised in the UK?
Not automatically, but the ICAI–ACCA MoU gives exemptions toward ACCA. State your ACCA status or exemptions on the CV — UK recruiters and ATS filters key on ACCA/ACA/CIMA, not the ICAI designation alone.
Should I convert GST and TDS terms to UK equivalents?
Yes. Reframe indirect-tax work as 'VAT' and 'HMRC' filings and compliance. Indian tax terms don't match UK requisitions, so translate the substance into UK terminology the parser recognises.
Do I need Sage or Xero experience already?
It helps a lot. If you've used them, name them; if not, list any UK-relevant training and lead with transferable skills — but expect 'Sage' and 'Xero' to appear as ATS keywords on most UK finance specs.
