The Australian ATS-ready résumé for accountants moving from India

Australian accounting employers screen through SEEK and an ATS, and they look for a very specific local vocabulary — Xero and MYOB, BAS and GST, AASB standards, CPA Australia or CA ANZ pathway. An Indian CV built around US software and Indian tax terms gets mismatched before a person ever reads it. Here is how to localise it for an Australian accounting search and a 189/190 skilled-visa application.

Why accountant résumés from India get filtered in Australia

Xero and MYOB, not QuickBooks-by-default

Australia runs on Xero and MYOB — they dominate the SEEK ads far more than QuickBooks. A résumé leading with US tools misses the exact keyword the parser wants. Name the platforms the listing names, and add Australian staples like BAS preparation and Single Touch Payroll (STP).

Australian standards and tax terms, not US GAAP

US GAAP means nothing to an Australian recruiter. Frame your work in AASB (Australian Accounting Standards, IFRS-aligned), GST, FBT and ATO reporting. Swapping in the local terminology is what gets you matched — and it signals you can hit the ground running on Australian compliance.

State your professional pathway (CA ANZ / CPA Australia)

Australian firms map candidates to CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants ANZ. If you're a member, in progress, or seeking recognition of your Indian qualification, say so explicitly — 'CPA Australia (in progress)'. Omitting it leaves a recruiter guessing about your standing.

Numbers and no personal details

'Handled accounts' is filler; 'Managed month-end close for a $40M ledger, cutting close time from 8 to 5 days' is what recruiters weight. Drop the photo, DOB and marital status the Indian format includes, use DD/MM/YYYY dates, and keep a plain Key Skills section the ATS can read.

Accountant résumé FAQ (India → Australia)

Do I need CPA Australia or CA ANZ to apply?
Not for every role, but naming your pathway matters. Many Australian postings ask for CPA Australia or CA ANZ membership or progress toward it. State where you stand — member, studying, or seeking recognition of your Indian qualification — so recruiters can place you correctly.
Which accounting software should I put on my résumé?
Mirror the SEEK ad, but Xero and MYOB are the two Australian employers most often require. If you've used them, lead with them; add QuickBooks only where the listing does. Also name BAS, GST and STP work explicitly.
How do I handle Indian tax experience on an Australian résumé?
Translate the concept, not the local name — describe indirect-tax and statutory reporting in Australian terms (GST, BAS, ATO) rather than Indian ones, and never overstate familiarity with AASB or Australian tax you haven't yet done. Our builder won't invent it for you.
