Why accountant résumés from India get filtered in the US
US standards and software, named explicitly
US postings screen for “US GAAP”, “QuickBooks”, “NetSuite”, “SAP”, “month-end close”, “reconciliations”. If your experience maps to these, name them the US way — “Tally” alone won’t match a US ATS.
Credentials up top, spelled out
A US recruiter looks for CPA, CMA, or “CA (equivalent to US CPA)”. State the credential clearly near the top; an ATS often hard-filters finance roles on the certification line.
Quantify the ledger
“Handled accounts” is invisible. “Owned month-end close for a $40M entity, cutting close time from 10 to 6 days” is what lands. US finance résumés quantify scope (revenue, entities, transaction volume).

Accountant résumé FAQ (India → US)
- I’m a CA in India — how do I position that for US roles?
- State it as “Chartered Accountant (ICAI) — equivalent to US CPA” so both the recruiter and the ATS recognize the credential, and mirror the US framework (US GAAP) and software the posting names where your experience genuinely covers it.
- Does the software I list really matter?
- A lot — US finance ATS filters key on tools like QuickBooks, NetSuite, or SAP. List the ones you’ve actually used under a clear Skills heading, and reference the primary one inside an experience bullet.
